Effectiveness Vs Busyness

We all are given the same amount of time in a day. We strive to be busy when it comes to the work of the church. Being busy is good but being effective bears fruit for the Kingdom. The difference between effectiveness & busyness is the result!

Effective Christians do what they say they will do. Matthew 5:37 says But let your Yes be Yes, and your No, No. For whatever is more than these is from the evil one. A Christian’s character should be of such integrity that their words can be believed. Before a Christian can be effective, a Christian must be credible.

Effective Christians will seek to improve their walk with Christ. Matthew 7:7 says Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Improvement comes from asking “How am I doing?” “What am I missing?” Asking, seeking, and knocking are signs of growth. Internal persistence without external prodding will produce eternal rewards.

Effective Christians go the second mile. Matthew 5:41 says And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. Going the second mile will require a first rate attitude. A large retail store once put the question “How may I help you?” on the back of the employee uniform. Effectiveness will not require us to announce our intention but demonstrate our willingness.

A barrier to effectiveness lies in giving reasons versus producing results. We must be motivated to grow and have a desire to serve. Are we are putting smiles on faces & lightening loads? Do we provide relief or shirk responsibility? Effectiveness requires efficiency which starts with our example. Are you effective or busy?
