As humans living on earth, it is said that there are only two certainties in life: death and taxes. I know on April 15 each year the U.S. government requires taxes to be completed. That is one requirement of citizens in the United States. Must a certainty for ALL humans is death. Unless we are granted the blessing of Jesus’ return before we die, each one will surely face death.
Hebrews 9:27 states, “And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.” All humans will encounter death and all will encounter the judgment of God.
Acts 17:31a the writer states, “because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed…” There is with absolute certainty a day of judgment coming for each and every one of us. But I believe many of this world will be surprised by a couple of things on that day of judgment.
*Many of this world will be surprised that God really meant what He said within scripture. Matthew 7:21 states, “Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” God really means for us to follow His word. Belief alone won’t get it done.
*Each person will have to answer for the work they have done. Romans 2:6 Paul states “He will render to each one according to his works.” Each person will be responsible for their own actions and their own work.
*Many people will be surprised that one can not be saved apart from baptism. Mark 16:16 states, “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” Many people today think that just believing in God and being a good person will get you to Heaven. Those people will surely be surprised. Faith and obedience is a requirement.
*Finally, there will be lots of people that are surprised that Heaven and Hell are REAL. In Matthew 25:31-46 we are given insight into the final judgment. In this passage souls are given an eternity with God in Heaven while other souls are condemned to an eternity of punishment in Hell. Heaven and Hell are absolutely real!
The day of judgment is a certainty! Are you prepared?
