Our Influence

One of my favorite art projects in high school involved creating clay pots. I spent time & energy to create something I molded. I influenced the design & outcome of my creation.

Are we using our influence? Our culture is heavily influenced by politics, athletics, & celebrities. We attach ourselves to someone in these areas that holds our “value system” and hope they will change culture because they believe like we believe when it comes to social, spiritual, or moral issues! We end up “settling” and accepting those big names will make an impact because of their influence. We may feel they will represent us and our work is complete.

The little pots I made required energy, effort, and work, not someone else doing the molding. Why do we allow politicians, athletes, and celebrities to shape society? Christians have more influence than the three of those areas combined!

Our influence can impact the world. Matthew 5:12- 14 says You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor; how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

Our influence should reflect God. I Peter 1:15 says but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct.

Our influence is seen by the world. Matthew 5:16 says Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Don’t pass your influence (molding ability) on to an elected official, athlete, or an entertainer. Culture will only be changed when you reflect Christ!
