Being Sick

Someone once said: “A healthy person has a thousand dreams. A sick person only has one.”

We certainly understand the sentiment. If we are healthy and feel good, we are off in 100 directions, trying to accomplish our goals – going where we want to go, when we want to go.

But when we are sick, pretty much the only goal we have is to feel better.

Spiritual Application:

Three general categories of spiritual sickness…

1. Those who are sick but do not know it.

King David did not realize he was sick at one point (2 Samuel 11 & 12).

He had used his power as king to take another man’s wife and then to have that husband killed. Yet… some              how…did not realize the miserable shape his soul was in!

It took Nathan’s parable to wake David up to the fact that he was spiritually sick (2 Sam. 12:5-                   6, 7-9).

Some are ignorant. Some are in denial and lie to themselves. Many just don’t realize they are spiritually sick and need help.

      2. Those who are sick and know it but do not know what to do about it.

Naaman was one who knew he was sick (with leprosy), but did not know where to turn for healing (2 Kings 5:1-4). He was powerful and willing to travel and pay lots of money.

At first, he was hesitant to do what he was told to do (2 Kings 5:10-12). But once he listened an did as he was commanded, he was healed!

Thankfully, we know to whom we must turn when we are sick (John 6:66-69).

3. Those who are sick and are seeking proper treatment.

Mark 5:21-34 records the account of the woman with the issue of blood. She was not going to be stopped until she reached the One who could heal her. She pushed and fought her way to Jesus!

Let us examine ourselves (2 Cor. 13:5), honestly evaluating our spiritual health.

If we know we are sick, let us not allow anything to stand in our way! Get to the Lord!

Let us confess our sins (1 John 1:9). May we be washed in the blood of the Lamb (Rev. 7:14).

Let us seek the healing power of the Lord (1 Peter 2:24; James 5:14-16).
