Building Godly Homes

I am super excited to be teaching some of our youth again on Sunday mornings.  When our kids were going through our Education Program several years ago, it seems I knew most of our congregation’s kids, or at least the peers of our children.  With me getting an opportunity to teach again, I get to be introduced to some of the next “wave” of our youth!  This week in our first class, we began a study regarding the topic of “Building Godly Homes.”  How many of us have heard over the years, “The ills of society can be traced back to the breakdown of the home?”  Please consider these thoughts on the home as we began a new journey in our class:

1. A strong foundation is an essential part of any building.

2. A home without a godly foundation is likely to collapse when challenges and difficulties come.

3. A key component of building a strong foundation for the home is a personal commitment to holiness.

4. The commitment to holiness is not just an individual one.

5. Another key to building a strong foundation for the home is choosing a godly spouse.

6. A godly spouse is a part of a strong foundation because both partners are committed to serving God and following Him.

7. An additional piece of a strong foundation for a godly home recognizes that a holy family is started with a covenant arrangement with God. (A covenant is regarded as a contract, but a covenant is much stronger and deeper than that).

8. A home founded on a contractual relationship is founded on sand, but a home founded on a covenantal relationship is founded on a rock. (Jesus).

9. May we remember, “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it (Psalms 127).
