Spring Cleaning

If Spring would ever actually get here and stay here, it may be that many of us would finally get around to doing some Spring Cleaning in and around our homes (if you have already accomplished this feat—way to go!).

We are reminded of a time when Jesus did a bit of “cleaning” of his own. “The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables” (John 2:13-15).

God is very serious and has very clear expectations about what happens in a place of worship!

When Jesus walks among the congregations of His people (Rev. 1:12, 20; 2:1), He expects to find cleansed temples! He expects a house of prayer to operate according to divine standards.

Most likely, you and I need to be busy with some personal Spring Cleaning as well.

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?

You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body” (1 Cor. 6:19-20).

Christ is looking for hearts that have been cleansed by His blood. He is looking for those who truly want their lives /actions to match their profession of faith. He is looking for those who will pray:

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me” (Ps. 51:10-11).
