Staying Safe

It is tragic. It is sickening. It is heartbreaking.

Each time we hear about places of worship being terrorized—being invaded by someone with the intent to harm and cause mayhem, we are immediately prompted to petition God in prayer on behalf of those who have been hurt, and we are put on the alert—we are surely provoked to look deep within and ask ourselves if we are doing everything we can to make sure our own people are safe.

I am so thankful that we have the people and the resources so that we are able to take numerous measures to ensure safe and peaceful worship experiences for the family of God here at South Green Street.

However, I hate that it is necessary. I know you do too. But the reality is we live in a sin-sick world.

That being the case, our top priority must be knowing, loving, and obeying Jesus Christ.

If we have been bought by His blood, then we know that we are safe (Eph. 1:7; Gal. 3:37).

Just like God brought Noah’s family “safely through the water” (1 Pet. 3:20) after the flood, our immersion into Jesus Christ—our union with Him in His death and resurrection—means that the Lord will see us safely through as well (1 Pet. 3:21).

“The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.” (2 Timothy 4:18)
