Suffering but not Forgotten

The book of Job provides valuable insight into numerous areas of our lives.

For one, we learn that genuine struggle and suffering does not mean we have been forgotten by God.

Job struggled with these feelings:

“Why do you hide your face and count me as your enemy?” (13:24)

He felt forgotten. It was as if he had been crushed and destroyed and then just left behind.

Maybe you and I have entertained similar ideas.

But we know the rest of the story. We know that Job was not forgotten at all!

In his pain and confusion, God spoke to him (38:1; 40:6). Then, after enduring a great deal of pain and anguish, Job was restored and blessed (42:10-17).

This reminds us of the agony experienced by Jesus the Christ.

From the cross, He wondered, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Again, we know that Jesus was not forgotten in His time of suffering.

We know He was raised up and exalted (Acts 2:23-24; Phil. 2:5-11).

The good news continues for you and for me. Just like Job and Jesus, our suffering never means that we have been forgotten.

God still reigns. Heaven still awaits the faithful.

Remember Job and Jesus—they cried out in pain from a place of agonizing loneliness…but they were not alone. And much brighter days were on the horizon!

The same is true for you and me.
